Is there a website that will translate my English into Mandarin?
I would like to communicate with academics in China. I use ‘altavista babel’ for Italian and French communications and would like to do the same with Chinese. Preferably, both pinyin and simplified Chinese characters but either is better than nothing.
Using computer-based translation systems for Mandarin are not anywhere capable of translation for much more than very simple sentences. The language is too different to allow for the success of this kind of software. You will most likely find it very difficult to comprehend what they are saying and visa versa for lack of the software’s ability to correctly contemplate syntax, meanings, and important nuances.
Whatever you use, don’t expect it to be more than 50% dependable.
These software’s are only able to translate somewhat successfully between Western languages, which have basically the same syntax.
But it’s worth a try, just don’t wonder why when you aren’t understanding what they are talking about.
