Nintendo Wii – What’s The Fuss About?

We here at the Wii Showroom have researched the pros and cons of owning a Wii. I will start off by first stating why you should maybe NOT buy a Wii Console (i.e. the bad). Hmmm…Hmmm…Hmmm…Pondering….Hmmm…nope, I can think all day but we could honestly not find any cons worth mentioning as to why you should not own a Wii.

With such strong views in favour of the Wii Console, I thinks it’s best that we get stuck into all the pros about it straight away and start explaining why we are such fans of the Wii. NINTENDO WII IS FOR EVERYONE – irrespective of whether you are a hard core 35 year old gamer still living in your old lady’s basement because of your gaming obsession or if you are a grandpa who is as scared of anything remotely technology related like someone who is allergic to bee’s, and every time you see a console you go running as if it is the mother of all bee hives. The Wii has such a diverse collection of games and is so easy, interactive and fun to play with its intuitive motion controls that everyone in the family, whether it be the hard core gamer nephew or gramps, will enjoy some or other aspect of it.

Watching someone play Wii Games is almost just as much fun as playing yourself, especially if that someone is Grandpa trying to show you a few of his boxing moves while playing Wii Fit Boxing. All he has to do is pick-up the Nunchuks and throw a couple of punches – nothing can be easier. Zero previous gaming experience needed – just gramps memory of his boxing skills. The point I’m trying to make is that the magnificent Wii gaming console delivers a fun social activity for the whole family and must surely be the only gaming console that can bridge generation gaps so easily because of its user friendliness. If you don’t enjoy it you probably also don’t like puppies, ice cream or having fun – in which case you’re a lost cause anyways, so sorry, nothing (not even 1000 free Wii games) or no-one will be able to help your grumpy ass (excuse my french, but some folks just don’t get it).

Lets have a quick look at what type of games you can expect from Wii. I will try to keep it brief so as not to bore you with too many details, but at the same time still try to give you a better understanding as to why wii (and by wii I mean we…get it… wii we wii we wii we, sorry getting a bit carried away with a lame cheesy joke hey?)…..why we feel so strongly that the Wii is truly a gaming console that can be enjoyed by everyone.

The Wii collection of games is extremely diverse. From a host of racing games to sports games to adventure games like the legendary Mario Bros. There is definitely a game available for everyone in the Wii collection and too many to mention here (please refer to the Wii Showroom game pages after reading this article to check out some of the best games available). In my favourite game, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario’s spinning action with outstretched fists allows him to pummel his enemies and also Cue Star Rings that launches him through various must see galaxies as he searches for the Princess. Some of the older generation will however probably not find this game as easy to play as some of the other games, but for everyone else Super Mario Galaxy is an absolute must. For the ultimate Mario fan there is a whole collection of other Mario Games available, from Mario & Sonic at the Olympics to Mario Kart.

I believe music tends to get a party going, do you agree? If that’s indeed true, then the next family get together does not necessarily have to be boring, as long as you have Wii Guitar Hero 5. You can have family members singing their own rock songs or you can do some family bonding and jam together as a band depending on how many instrument controllers you have purchased. Uncle John can have everyone in stitches when he sings his favourite and ridiculously funny Bob Dylan song. Just a word of caution though, neither ourselves nor Nintendo will be held liable for any pain & suffering caused to everyones hearing by Uncle Sid’s singing that probably sounds more like the mating calls of a crazy male squirrel than a rock ballet. You can hand the mic to anyone to sing, but don’t forget this action is totally at your own risk. Hilarious scenes and lots of laughter is however as good as guaranteed with this game if you get the family involved!

Wii Fit is another game amongst the vast Wii gaming titles available, that deserves a bit of special attention. I hear you, why would I even mention the word Fit in an article that has to do with gaming? Well I can tell you playing games that takes your mind away from the fact that you’re exercising changes things a bit. There is yoga, skateboarding, obstacle courses, boxing and Rhythm Kung Fu but too name a few and with the Wii Balance board you’ll be off the couch in no time, doing all sort of silly moves as you play the various exercise type games. Just by playing a few games you’ll be working up a sweat, you heart will be getting some exercise and Mr.Couch Potatoe will become Mr.Muscle, well maybe not that drastic, but you get the point. However, just like the skateboarding exercise won’t miracously turn you into the next Tony Hawk, so Wii Fit won’t transform you into a super athlete but you’ll be exercising and having fun….No, your eyes are not deceiving you….exercise while you’re having fun. Impossible? Just try it.

There is another aspect of gaming that I personally view very important…time limitation. Making time for a bit of gaming relaxation in today’s fast paced world isn’t easy. Most of us just don’t have time to become hard core gamers. With work, family responsibilities, studying, functions, exercising because we have to (health), doing groceries, shopping, rushing here and there etc. etc. etc…..all that us normal folk (non hard core gamers) want, is a user friendly, but still a little challenging gaming console, to relax with while we escape a bit from the daily hussle and bussle that is our lives. Nintendo Wii Games provides all of that with the added bonus of being able to provide an awesome interactive social experience. But please don’t underestimate the Wii Console. It just makes provision for people with different gaming experience and can also provide for the more hard core gamer. That probably makes the Wii the best all round gaming console available on the market today.

Fans of other gaming consoles can say what they want but Nintendo Wii is still the most user friendly gaming console around for the average Joe. There is one last fact I need to make you aware of if you don’t already know it…..Nintendo Wii remains the fastest selling console in the history of the gaming industry and that says it all. Use it, don’t use, but the facts are there. Over 75 million units have already been sold worldwide and we predict many more will still be sold. Whether you become part of the worldwide Wii family is of course entirely up to you. Nintendo Wii is truly for you, and me, and everyone out there who wants to enjoy gaming.. So what’s holding you back?
