Is the 1973 Documentary series "World At War" much better than the BBC series over WWII?

how they compare and why the World at War is the DEFINITIVE documentary over WWII? also, anyone can explain how many hours of "Extra" volumes or programmes there are to the original 22 hours of documentaries? which programmes were added and when? also, was this series popular in Britain as well as USA? how about other parts of world? WHAT THE GERMANS WATCHED TOO AND WHY? please list any thing else you can that is as good and informative about WWII and how it compares to "World At WAR"? what you would give on scale 1-10 and why? thanks for your answers! TO THE FIRST ANSWERER..PLEASE LIST ANY NEWER TITLES AND EXPLAIN HOW THEY COMPARE IF YOU CAN.

The knowledge and understanding of the events leading up to WW2 has changed significantly in recent years. The World at War was a very good series, but like History is initially written, it was done so from the Victors perspective. I think there are far better documentaries that have come out since that show a more balanced view. I would argue that Germany is not unaware of its history and the events that have led up to WW! and WW2 and the role they played. They have made reparations and have undergone a lot of soul searching as a Nation in regard to their "recent" history. I would also argue that not every German soldier was a war criminal or a mass murder , they were well trained and disciplined soldiers who fought against overwhelming odds at the end of the war and fought bravely. The battle of the Ardennes was close to routing the entire Allied invasion and could have turned the tide of the War back in Germany's favour. The World at War is good but dated in its attitudes and perspective. 20 years ago I would have said 8/10 now it is probably more 5/10.
